How we work: one contract, one team, one accountability
We take on the whole project as a design and build contractor: we coordinate designers, trades, craftspeople and suppliers, manage every stage of the project and keep programme, cost and quality under control for the full duration of the works. We protect the client’s interest in technical and commercial decisions, anticipating and resolving issues before they reach the site.
Every project starts with a survey and a budget estimate that sets a cost range for the type of work, covering design, works, building services and furnishing. Once the budget is agreed, we develop the design and prepare a detailed proposal. Where the programme allows and there is room for optimisation, value engineering comes in: a technical review of materials, technologies and alternative solutions of equal quality, which optimises costs and makes the best use of resources to achieve the intended result.

Office fit out and refurbishment
Offices designed around the people who work in them. We deliver office fit out and refurbishment – new layouts, bespoke furniture, mechanical and electrical works and full site management, including Cat A and Cat B fit out – with the works carefully planned and delivered on schedule, so the space is ready on the day you planned. Projects include the offices of Clifford Chance, Edelman, Leyton and Edenred.
RETAIL
Shop and showroom fit out
Shops, showrooms and chain stores that work and get remembered. We deliver retail fit out from concept to completion – shop fit out, joinery, furniture and full site management – with one point of contact for programme, cost and quality, so the space reflects the brand and opens on the day you planned. Projects include the Leica stores in Italy.
RESIDENTIAL
Home and apartment refurbishment
Luxury home renovation and house refurbishment in Milan, Rome and across Italy. Design, works, building services and furnishing follow one single route: one point of contact – not one contractor among many – coordinating trades and consultants, keeping programme and cost under control, and staying with you from the first idea to handover. From the full refurbishment of an apartment to the renovation of a villa, for private owners and for the companies that own the property.
HOSPITALITY
Hotel and guesthouse refurbishment
Hotels, guesthouses and B&Bs up to four stars. We cover hospitality interior design, hotel refurbishment and hotel fit out end to end – bedrooms, halls and common areas finished down to the detail, with the FF&E: furniture, fixtures and equipment, procured and installed. One point of contact throughout, and works planned so the property can stay open and operating, because every closed day is a cost. Projects include Mini Hotel Portello in Milan.

Ilaria Pagano, founder of Base Interiors
Ilaria founded Base Interiors in 2018 to bring to the market something she felt was missing: a general contractor that could stay with the client end to end - from renovating a home to fitting out an office, from restyling a hotel to opening a shop - without trading quality for the lowest price.
A London graduate in Economics with a specialisation in International Marketing, Ilaria built her professional grounding in fashion between London and New York before arriving in Milan at the end of 2008. Since then she has worked in office furniture and in interiors for workspaces. Today she is the Client Leader on every project, whatever its end use: she is the client’s first point of contact, she shapes the proposal and she sets the budget. No quote leaves Base Interiors before she has read it – from restyling a private apartment to fitting out an international headquarters. She knows the sector inside out, and for that very reason she goes back over every line of cost until it reads clearly to someone outside the trade too: a client should be able to see exactly what they are paying for, with no acronyms and no jargon.
It is the same method behind projects such as the Leica stores, the Mini Hotel Portello and the offices of Clifford Chance, Edelman, Leyton and Edenred – and, on complex projects, it saved 15% of the budget by working on costs almost a year before site works began. On no project, in any sector, has Base Interiors ever overrun its original quote by a single day or a single euro.
Anyone who has worked with her finds the same reference point every time: Ilaria is the first contact and stays the fixed point for the whole project.
